EuPRAXIA-DN Fellow Phani Deep Meruga participation in iFAST project “Accelerators for Healthcare” innovation challenge

EuPRAXIA-DN Fellow Phani Deep Meruga based at Instrumentation Technologies  recently presented at the 10-day innovation challenge "Accelerators for Healthcare," organized by the iFAST project. This initiative brings together students from diverse fields including accelerator physics, chemistry, life sciences and medicine and industry representatives to explore new accelerator concepts and advanced prototyping technologies.

Phani showcased Instrumentation Technologies’ LLRF system and its application in Medical Accelerators. This system is crucial for maintaining stability and controlling frequency, phase, and amplitude, while also triggering the machine protection system in case of unexpected signals in the cavity or in the RF distribution.

The highlight for the students was learning about Phani's work at Instrumentation Technologies as an EuPRAXIA-DN Fellow, where he is developing a new LLRF system capable of operating at X-band frequencies (8-12 GHz). Higher frequencies mean smaller RF components and more compact machines, making installation in medical facilities like hospitals more feasible.
