Several members of Liverpool's QUASAR Group were honoured at the 2026 Club Liverpool Recognition Event, held at Liverpool Town Hall on 19 March 2026, in celebration of their contribution to delivering the International Beam Instrumentation Conference (IBIC) 2025.
The event recognized the important work of Alexandra Welsch, Dr Joe Wolfenden, Dr Narender Kumar and EuPRAXIA-DN Coordinator Professor Carsten P Welsch in successfully bringing and delivering the prestigious international conference to the Liverpool City Region. IBIC 2025 was the largest-ever conference in this long-standing series in Europe and was praised by participants for the quality of its scientific program and the excellent atmosphere it provided.
The Club Liverpool recognition event celebrates the work of its ambassadors - individuals who play a key role in attracting major national and international conferences to the region. Over the past year, Liverpool has hosted a wide range of high-profile events, including the British Science Festival, the Socio-legal Studies Association Annual Conference and Tidalites Liverpool. Together with IBIC 2025, the events have helped reinforce Liverpool’s reputation as a leading destination for research, innovation and knowledge exchange.

Speaking after the event, Professor Welsch emphasized the collective effort behind the achievement: “The success of IBIC 2025 reflects the dedication and collaboration of colleagues across the Cockcroft Institute and beyond. It was a privilege to work with the amazing local and international organizing committees, and to welcome the global beam instrumentation community to Liverpool.”
This recognition underscores the QUASAR Group’s commitment to scientific excellence and the group’s important role in shaping Liverpool’s status as a centre of excellence for accelerator science and technology.
