Flanish D’Souza was an Engineer at the Laser Gamma Experiments Department (LGED) in the Extreme Light Infrastructure -Nuclear Physics (ELI-NP), Romania. His work mainly focussed on the Non-Linear four wave mixing experiment for dark matter search as a part of the SAPPHIRES collaboration and Laser Wakefield Acceleration (LWFA) experiments with 1PW and 10PW High Power Laser Systems (HPLS).

Flanish did his Bachelors in Mechanical engineering during which he worked on many Aerospace related projects including but not limited to the study of using Methane as a possible rocket fuel at the Combustion, Gasification and Propulsion Laboratory (CGPL) in the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), using NASA Glenn Research Center's NASA CEA. He also worked on the design and development of a MEMS Accelerometer, the design and development of Coaxial, Gliding Arc and Rotating gliding arc plasma reactors of the generation of Hydrogen rich syngas.

Being exposed to the idea of particle acceleration very young, his interests always lied in Laser Wakefield Acceleration and hence, Flanish did his Masters in Photonics at Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal, India while being a visiting student to the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M), India, where he worked on the development of a High Harmonic Generation spectrometer. In 2022, Flanish was one of 78 around the world to be awarded the Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship by the International society of Optics and Photonics, SPIE.

Flanish D'Souza is a fellow of the EuPRAXIA Doctoral Network in Lund University, Lund, Sweden and will be working with Dr. Olle Lundh. His area of focus revolves around LWFA, Dephasingless Laser Wakefield Accelerators and their various applications while participating in theoretical and numerical studies at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Lisbon, Portugal.

When Flanish is not working, he travels, cooks and writes poetry. He has a black belt in karate and has founded Aathmik, an FMCG-OTC enterprise with a brand presence established in a distribution network of more than 5000 stores.

Flanish will join the EuPRAXIA-DN in April 2024.
